Self-study/Independent Project
Objective:
The objective of this project is to provide an opportunity for students to stretch their creativity and work more independently. The students will be expected to delve deep into concepts and ideas to convey messages and thought-provoking images, while also actively seeking interesting settings and utilizing studio lighting to produce professional-quality images.
Project Ideas:
The following are potential project ideas that students may pursue, subject to approval:
Design-oriented photo project: Comparing objects in a series of photos
Woven self-portrait: Two photos cut into strips and woven together
Pinhole photos: Manipulating photos using a thumbtack and a lightbox
Nature meets man-made: Combining unexpected elements for a desired result
When toys come alive: Setting up scenes with toys to create humorous photos
Ground portraits: Photographing subjects lying on the ground with props and costumes
Modern archaeologist: Photographing objects as if they were in a futuristic museum
Double exposure: Layering several portraits on top of one another for an interesting effect
Still life series: Food
Still life series: Botany (plants)
Picture within a picture: Using a photograph within a photo shoot to create an interesting composition
Surrealist mirroring: Using a handheld mirror in an interesting way outdoors
Portraits: Photoshop manipulation to create interesting interactions between people, places, and things
Portrait landscapes: Superimposing side profiles with landscapes
Book face: Changing portraits by posing with faces on books
Trinkets: Finding interesting collections of twigs and string collected by birds or water
Graffiti: Documenting cool tags found throughout the city
Big world, tiny creatures: Finding very small figurines and putting them in interesting situations
Hair dryer/tape portraits: Taking funny photos of people with air blown in their faces or wrapped in tape
Toy story: Telling a story with old toys or photographing younger siblings/cousins surrounded by their toys in a constructed photo shoot.
