Researching Historical Photos or a Famous Historical Photographer (Pre-1970)
Objective:
To analyze and interpret historical photos or the work of a famous historical photographer (pre-1970), and gain an understanding of the historical context and significance of the images.
Instructions:
Choose either historical photos or a famous historical photographer (pre-1970) to research.
If you choose historical photos, select either an event or a location. If you choose a photographer, research their life and work.
Research the historical context of the photos or the photographer's work. Consider the political, social, and cultural context of the time period in which the photos were taken or the photographer worked.
Analyze the photos or the photographer's work. Consider the following questions:
What techniques did the photographer use?
What is the subject matter of the photos or the photographer's work?
What is the overall impact of the photos or the photographer's work?
Compare and contrast the historical photos or the photographer's work with other photos or photographers from the same time period. Consider the similarities and differences and what they reveal about the historical context.
Evaluate the historical significance of the photos or the photographer's work. What can we learn about history from these images or the photographer's work? How have they influenced our understanding of history and/or photography today?
Create a SharePoint page to embedded PowerPoint that summarizes your findings. The page should include a brief history of the event or location, a biography of the photographer (if applicable), an analysis of the photos or the photographer's work, a comparison to other photos or photographers from the same time period, and an evaluation of the historical significance of the photos or the photographer's work.
Grading Criteria:
Quality of research (20 points)
Depth of analysis (30 points)
Quality of presentation or paper (20 points)
Critical thinking and historical analysis (30 points)
References in APA format. (10 points)
